Arcadia in Belgravia…
The Veranda at The Goring: the nicest place to eat al fresco in London this summer
May 2010: There is something deeply English about eating al fresco on a balmy summer day. And the Veranda, overlooking the Gardens at The Goring in Belgravia, London’s oldest privately-owned 5-star hotel, must be one of the nicest places in the entire capital to eat outside.
Astonishingly, despite being just seconds from Victoria Station, right in the middle of London, The Goring Garden is just about the size of Centre Court at Wimbledon. It is the largest privately-owned hotel garden in central London - with enough space to hold a glamorous garden party in a marquee, yet at the same, incredibly private and a deeply peaceful retreat.
On fine days in summer, guests can dine on the shaded Veranda, overlooking the Garden, for lunch and dinner. The Goring specialises in superbly cooked English food, using carefully sourced British produce and the menu features all the best food that an English summer has to offer. Start with Gull's eggs with celery salt and mayonnaise, move into Smoked wild Scottish halibut with a parsley and horseradish sauce and finish with a giant banana split. What could be better?
